Low Profile Macintosh Models

These pages hold all photos of the low profile Mac models (the LC series).
Remember - I am NOT responsible for any damage done to any Mac by anyone trying to replace their logic board battery!
LC Series/Quadra 605

First, here is a typical pizza box with the top cover taken off, this is a Performa 460 - a 68030 Mac that runs at 33 MHz (pretty fast for such an early model). You can see the hard drive on the left and the floppy drive on the right. The Insides Of The Performa 460

Here is a photo of the logic board for the Performa:

You can see the battery and it's cage, and the RAM chip is partly inserted so you can see it more clearly. It, of course, would not be like that when the computer was reassembled!

This next photo shows the battery a lot better.

Here is the inside of a Quadra 605 - with the cover off, the logic board is very similar to the Performa 460 shown above. You can see that the RAM slots are in a different location but many of the components (hard drive, floppy drive, power supply) are in the same locations.

Quadra 605 Logic Board

You can see the blue battery in the middle - with a cage over it. The CPU and then the VRAM and SIMM are to the right.

The LC and the Performa low profile Macs are mostly the same, there were some minor speed differences and different software loads.

These directions apply to the LC, LC 2, LC 3, LC475 and Quadra 605 computers - so anything that is a LC 475, Performa 475, Performa 476, etc.

By the way, the LC 3, the LC475, Quadra 605, and some of their cousins accelerate with either a (very rare) clock chip kit or with a simple (for someone experienced in soldering) resister swap. It will provide a much needed speed boost for an old, but possibly still useful, Macintosh. The Quadra 605 that I show in the photo had been accelerated from 25 to 33 MHz, and since then has accelerated to 40 MHz (this required some more difficult logic board work). I had to get some faster VRAM for it to be useful at that speed - the video looked "washed out" after a few minutes. There is probably no reason to hold on to a pre-Quadra Macintosh, if you can't find someone who collects them you could recycle it.
