Congestion in Switches
Congestion in Switches
- Large numbers of inputs make switches likely sites of network congestion.
- Switch congestion occurs when the sum of inputs destined for a given output, for some time interval, exceeds the capacity of that output, during the same interval.
- When this occurs, buffers (input, output, or both) will start to fill.
- If it lasts long enough, packets will be lost.
