Why do folks care about access switches?

• The network is as good as its weakest link.
• The majority of problems with connecting to the Internet via modem are modem hardware failure.

Why use a cell bus when almost all the traffic is packet?

Why have the processor figure out when to send packets when the vast majority of packets from the modem are going to the trunk?

What should be in the next generation NAS requirements?

• Modular, NEBS3 (mostly for colocation in telco CO)
• The Apis box contains a packet bus and an ATM bus. The ATM bus is not used today, but is available for DSL and other Cell developments.

Bill asks: Do you see ISP Wholesaling as something that is on the increase?

Yes, we have seen this. As an example, PSI recently sold their dialup operation and now acquire that service from another provider.

Are their plans to support SS7?

Yes, we want to do that. There will be a discussion in Denver at the end of this week to discuss how that might be done.

Vadim: He suggest that local ISPs may become more like dealers reselling service. There is no reason to have it go to the service provider per se.

Yes, that's true. Only control information would need to be sent that way.
