Notes:
Rule 1 for wise service providers do not accept dynamic routing updates from general users, especially individual dialup users. Ideally, the preceding problem scenario should at least be prevented by John’s provider, which should not accept his RIP advertisements. Unfortunately, many will.
As defined in Rule 2, wise providers do not accept incoming traffic from downstream service providers unless the source addresses in those packets belong to the downstream provider’s block, or to a third-party block the downstream provider is known to provide transit services for.
Rule 3 states they do not pass traffic upstream unless the source addresses are part of the provider’s own block, or valid addresses meeting Rule 2 from a downstream provider.
