Topology

• 8 Stratacom BPX switches geographically spread out over the Bay Area
  • There is a route server there. There is also a Los Angeles switch connected to this Topology.

Problems

• Meeting the increasing demand for higher bandwidth connections
• 44 customers using 47 ports
  • 32 DS3 connections -- 78% growth since Jan 97
  • 15 OC3 connections -- > 100% growth since Jan 97
• We are seeing a doubling of the traffic moving through the NAP in 6 months (200 to 400 Mbps from Jun to December of last year)
• Managing Capacity Issues with our customers
• Customers at capacity (at their connections to the NAP) can lead to congestion issues within the NAP
• We are starting to be more proactive with the customers that are beginning to have capacity problems
