Statistics

Registrations in .COM are growing linearly. .ORG and .NET are about the same size.

On average, the increase in registrations are increasing by about 20,000 a month.

The number of /24's per month has been pretty consistent.

There has been a cap on the number of calls we can handle and in about 2 weeks this cap will go away.

There is a rate limiter in place on the whois server approaching almost 20 million queries last month.

The amount of mail to hostmaster has grown over 600%.

a.root-servers.net is setting about 15000 queries/second.

k.root-servers.net has been moved to London and is seeing much fewer hits.

RS[0-6] and a.root-servers.net are now Sun Microsystems Ultra2s

HTTPS is now running.

Registration services has migrated from sendmail/SMAP to qmail.

Dynamic DNS Update is being tested with the goal of changing root server updates from once a day to 4 times a day.

Secure DNS is not ready yet.

Guardian

• Statistics

  • High -- 24,788 (in one day)
  • Average -- 5,875 (per day)

Rwhois

The 1.5 spec is released. The server includes soundex and CIDR and is available on the web. A rwhois-registration services gateway now exists and uses Rwhois as front-end application.

A zone cutter and an interface to oracle are in the works.

Billing

• New outsourcing vendors now firmly in place
  • Invoice printing/mailing subcontractor has been solidified.
  • Automated posting for checks has reduced errors
  • 24x7 credit card call center
• On-line Payment System is now available.

  • 293,690 names deactivated to date

  • About 7% do actually pay

Help Desk

The help desk is open 7am to 9pm daily.

• Line utilization went from 85% busy to 7%
• Abandonment rate reduced by 5% (7-10% rate)
• Quality of Service (incentive program being put in place and a new phone switch)

A move will be happening on June 15 with no lasting external outages.

ARIN will stay at NSI HQ until they find a suitable site.

Better power, new phone switch and increased floor space.

payment.internic.net does not have a DNS entry. That will be fixed.

What is the rate limiter? I can't say.

Who owns the registration database? Mark is a technical person and this is a political question

What is the current move on implementing the lame delegation policy? Tom Newell posted a note that indicated that there is not a consensus.

What is the status of using RWHOIS instead of SWIP? There is a group at NSI that has worked to make that work. There are problems in the 1.5 release concerning in-addr.arpa. This can be corrected by altering the schema.

Have you done any analysis on the transaction volume to see which is being guardian approaches are being used? Yes, large transaction users are using PGP keys.

How long until a recycled name is available again? 60 days by the policy.

How about a root server in Australia? It depends how much bandwidth you are willing to donate to the rest of the Internet.

Which payment system is being used the most? Checks, but Credit Cards using the dialup system is moving up.
