Stan Barber's Notes

There are two meshes of ATM that make up this network. They are all PVC based. This was done because two years ago, this was all that could run OC-3. Running directly over SONET is being investigated.

MCI has an agreement with NetStar to develop code on the Gigarouter.

• Hardware upgrade to add new functionality.
• Testnet Upgrade to OC-12
• new connections
• New BGP Peers -- BGP Communities
• IP Intergrated Service Development
• OC 12 at the end of January.

Lightstreams are being replaced by Fore ASX-1000.

The Cisco 7000 will be upgrade to 7507.

Vector switches are also being used.

Five static customers for two years. 12 more to be added "soon" and then something like 50 will be next.

There are a number of peers (all Fed).

Communities make it easy to insure that there is no transit use.

OC3MON

• Able to plug into the OC3 and gather information directly from the OC3. Has two ATM cards in a Pentium PC. 10% of the light is bleeded off to the receive line in the NIC card (each way) and collect the data for post processing. The software is freely available.
• Collections are made in 5 minute intervals.

Upgrade to OC-12

NetStar Gigarouters will be the connect point via OC-12 ATM cards.

Questions & Answers

At Ameritech, there is a plan to upgrade to OC-3. There is also review at NSF to determine if the connection policies need to be changed.
