MAE-WEST

At the MFS facility, there are four connections to the FDDI and seven to the ethernet. At Ames, there are six connected to the FDDI and two to ethernet.

The NetEDGE stuff in use is currently 23Mb/sec, but there is new software that allows it to go about 42Mb/sec. This will be installed when traffic levels are high enough.

Stats are gathered every 5 minutes and reduced and reported via the WWW. Individual port stats will be mailed nightly to users eventually. Email into the NOC converts to a trouble ticket will happen soon. Colocation space is very popular. More will need to be found. In Washington, a new room is being created which will be setup for the MAE and will becomes its home in January 1996. MAE-West has space available. There is also space available at AMES. AMES is working on getting an agreement in place to insure that a GIGAswitch can be purchased and that the goverment regulations are followed. Steve has offered for MFS to place a switch at AMES if that will facilitate things from the NASA perspective.

Guy Almes notes that the DS3s in use are not heavily used relative to the traffic at the sites connected via DS3s. Steve said that it appears that sites are not using the DS3 for peering as much as they use the "local" connections.

MAE-CHICAGO is not yet started and remains as a sales issue.

Bill Norton really appreciates that the stats are online daily. The RS does some statistics and is using the MFS data to coorelate their data with data from MFS. The RA should have similiar data on-line in a couple of months.
