ATM testing
The Updated Kentrox and Cisco AIP for CPE are being tested
- ASDU<->ADSU
- Achieves 34Mbps thru-put
- Dataloss in ATM switch, ADSU transmit buffers and HSSI
output buffers
- ADSU->AIP
- Consistent with ADSU<->ADSU
- AIP-> AIP
- Achieves 34 Mbps
- No dataloss with upt to 500Kbps
- AIP->ADSU
Conclusion
- Kentrox works, AIP w/o rate control works
- AIP and ASDU Inter-Operate
AIP Rate-Control Test
There are alot of different knobs to twiddle and this
takes alot of time

Guy Almes asks, Given the improvement in ATM capabilities
for TCP/IP over the last 12 months, when do you [Kent]
expect ATM to be preferred for a NAP over FDDI?
Kent says there are a number of answers. One is
that some providers will never want to use ATM. Another
is that for faster than 100Mb/sec connections, ATM is
the way to do it. With some developments on the horizon,
there will be some new features coming that will make thing
better.
Steve asks how many providers are on the FDDI ring:
RS, ANS, MCI, SPRINT, NET99/AGIS
Bill asks if the ATM switch has adequate instrumentation
for assisting PAC*BELL in providing information for helping
clients determine when to upgrade their connection. Kent
said that is now an important part of the current ATM switch
evaluation. Extracting the data is another problem. Currently,
a proxy server is being configured to extract data from
the proprietary interface and present it as SNMP.
